Very often we are bombarded with gloom and doom stories about the UK’s construction industry but Birmingham is certainly bucking this trend.
According to the 2017 Crane Survey, which measures the volume of development across central Birmingham, the city is experiencing the most construction work since the survey first started back in 2002.
The detail of the survey looks at office, retail, leisure, hotels, education, residential and student accommodation and covers the city centre, Digbeth, Jewellery Quarter and Edgbaston.
Edwin Bray, author of the Crane Survey and a partner at Deloitte Real Estate in Birmingham, said: "This really is a new era for the city as it grows and matures, expanding both upwards and outwards. Developer confidence is reinforced by the growth in financial services businesses choosing to headquarter here, activity stimulated by HS2 and a previous lack of grade A supply available for immediate office occupation."
