Construction in Manchester and Salford is at a 10-year high and it’s the residential sector that’s leading the way with 7,000 apartments currently under development up from 4,500 apartments in May.
There are approximately 2,500 apartments under construction in the centre of Manchester alone and another 3,000 apartments under way in Salford. With a further 2,500 apartments in the pipeline for central Manchester and over 40,000 across inner Manchester, the city is a hive of building activity.
In addition to all the residential activity, there are over 630 hotel rooms under construction in central Manchester, with nearly 300 of these right in the city centre. There are a further 220 under way in Trafford at the Emirates Stadium and the Hilton Garden Inn.
On the commercial front, there is over 1m sq ft of office space under construction across central Manchester. In the pipeline there is over 7m sq ft of office space planned for Manchester and Salford.
Dominating the skyline over the next few years will be the development of Manchester’s newest tall building Owen Street Tower 1, which will be over 200metres in height by Great Jackson Street. This beats the next highest building in the city, Beetham Tower, by over 30metres.
The continuous development in Manchester and Salford is a positive sign of the confidence in the city and is good news for all those looking to invest in the area.
