MediaCityUK have just announced the second phase of their plans to further develop their site in Salford, which will effectively double its size over the next 10 years.
The £1 billion plans incorporate 540,000 sq ft of office space, 1,800 apartments, retail and leisure developments, public spaces and a pedestrian promenade. The plans are now with Salford City Council for final approval.
MediaCityUK is a joint venture between Peel Land and Property and Legal and General Capital. The site is already home to large sections of the BBC, ITV, Ericcson and SIS and is the digital and creative hub of the north west.
Steven Underwood, Chief Executive of The Peel Group, said that the plans are…”another major step forward in the evolution of MediaCityUK and is a shining example of what can be achieved across the Northern Powerhouse, combining the talents of great people with ambition and vision.”
Paul Stanworth, MD of Legal and General Capital, said the plans have the….”ability to make a sizeable economic impact, both locally and nationally. We hope to deliver much-needed homes, hubs for businesses and new retail, leisure and public spaces for residents, workers and visitors to enjoy.”
Meanwhile, development at MediaCityUK continues to gain momentum with the new ‘Tomorrow’ building coming on stream in summer 2016 and The Lightbox apartment development due to start construction in early 2017.
Phase 2 of the much admired MediaCityUK is sure to attract even more young professionals and students to the city, eager to be a part of what is fast becoming the digital and creative hub of the UK.
