Newcastle is aiming to become one of the top shopping destinations in Europe and plans are being put in place to make this a reality.
Newcastle City Council and NE1 are working with real estate agency Cushman & Wakefield and architects FaulknerBrowns to create a strategy that will transform the Northumberland Street area of the city.
Northumberland Street is regarded as a key driver of business to the wider city and local businesses have been encouraged to share their ideas on how one of the city’s main shopping streets can be improved.
The ambitious plans are looking to emulate upmarket shopping areas such as London’s Regent Street, Boulevard Anspach in Brussels and the Neuer Wall area of Hamburg.
Ged Bell, cabinet member for investment and development at Newcastle City Council said: “This is an essential piece in the jigsaw that will help inform and shape our ambition to transform Northumberland Street into a world-class shopping and leisure destination.”
