In the first three quarters of 2015, investment in the UK student housing market hit record levels and exceeded US investment for the very first time.
According to international real estate advisors Savills, the UK has seen investment of $6.5 billion dollars which has more than doubled the $3 billion which has been invested in the US over the same period.
The research shows that all the major global investment deals in 2015 have been into the UK. This includes the $1.7 billion purchase of the Liberty Living Portfolio by the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board and the $920 million purchase of the Nido London Portfolio by Greystar/PSP.
This is the first time the UK has outperformed the US in student housing investment which is amazing given the sizes of the respective countries. North American, Middle Eastern and Russian investors have been the biggest investors who have earmarked the UK student property market for bearing all the hallmarks of a prime investment opportunity.
